Events in Poland in 2011:
The Polish Minister of Education has declared the 2010/2011 school year to be the ‘Year of Discovering Talents’.
On March 21st 2011, Talent Days were organised all over Poland. There was a Talent Day in the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw organised by the Ministries of Education and of Culture. Over 1,500 pupils and students were invited from small schools across Poland in order to show how important work with gifted children is. During this meeting young people had a wonderful chance to take part in exciting experiments and workshops prepared for them. Talent Support in Poland:
The 2010/2011 school year has been declared the ‘Year of Discovering Talents’ in Poland. In February 2010, the Polish Ministry of National Education started a project called “Development and implementation of a comprehensive system for working with gifted and talented pupils and students”, which is co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund. The project's objective is to ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive system for working with gifted pupils and children. To achieve this, the project will implement both an in-depth analysis of the current system, including the organization and the manner of conducting competitions, tournaments and school contests, as well as the introduction of legislative and methodological changes.
The project also provides for the training of a group of people involved in the development of abilities in children and adolescents. Also, activities will be implemented, which aim to draw the attention of teachers and parents to the special educational needs of particularly gifted children.
Project implementation will involve teachers, heads of schools and educational institutions, parents, representatives of the school managing authorities, non-governmental organizations dealing with gifted students, psychological and educational centres, professional development centres for teachers, and – last, but not least - boards of education.
The project was launched on 1st February 2010, and will run until 31 December 2013.
